Ahhhh, the roller coaster of living life in another country! Yesterday I felt both the most useful ... AND the most useless since I've been here... all in a matter of five hours! I was facilitating a workshop on human rights, mediation strategies, and a community small grant distribution. It was my first time to really be heading up anything here, and it felt good. Just like teaching really, just slightly less familiar subject matter, adults instead of children, and a huge cultural/language/education barrier! BUT, they liked me, I feel like I did a good job, and the supervisor of the program came to the workshop today and had positive feedback for me (said I should have been conducting trainings since I've been here)! However, yesterday while the community involvement in the grant making decision was dissolving into chaos and conflict among the community members... my favorite coworker shouted "forget about Kate... this white woman is only here for two more weeks and then she's gone! Listen to what I'm telling you people!"
Needless to say I felt completely purposeless and frustrated after a long hot day...
And later gained some perspective and realized... he was speaking the truth and I can't be upset about that!
It's been two long days, just made it back to the office for a few quick minutes... having a going away party for the regional director... and hoping for another busy/fun-filled weekend!
Love y'all! Kate
