So I'm up to my old tricks... planning on decorating the front entrance of the school with spider webbing and a giant black spider tonight just to usher in the holiday tomorrow morning for all the students and teachers! :) I spent the morning stuffing goody sacks with the Halloween candy that I finally found after searching two hours yesterday (there are plastic jack'o'lanterns on every corner, but halloween treats or candy... next to no where)! Each student will get a little good bag of candy, a halloween balloon, and a toy. Each teacher (I'm really trying to get on their good side here) will get a jack'o'lantern stuffed with dry erase markers, pens, sticky notes, and candy. Should be fun and I'm really excited to surprise everyone. After all to them, Halloween or Witch's Day as it's translated here, to most people is a terrible American holiday that has unfortunately been adopted by the young people of Peru! Maybe I'll succeed in showing them the fun side of it... or maybe, as things seem to go here for me at the school, I'll just offend their Catholic sensibilities and never be invited back to teach! :) That's a joke... at least I think.
I'm really enjoying my little vacation. It's SO nice not to have to worry about the time and just be able to be me and enjoy the city and my friends, without having to say... "oo, what time is it? I have to go to work!" Now, it's I'm free what are we going to do? Who wants to go to lunch? Anybody wanna visit the convent with me? I haven't recieved a positive response to that one yet, so I'm still waiting on someone to accompany me... I imagine it will be a lot more fun with another person.
I had some great fried calamari at a restaurant called "El Gato" today and was informed that it got it's name from it's original owner who had very dark skin and green eyes, thus earning him the nickname of Gato or Cat. Interesting, huh? Good story and great food!
On another note, this is the best internet cafe that I have found yet... the keyboard workds amazingly well, there's a large flat screen monitor, and the internet is FAST... I think I'll be revisiting this one!
And for anyone who was worried about my eating habits, I can assure you that since finding my two favorite ice creams, and chocolate bars here... plus french fries... I'm not hurting any in the eating department! :)
Thanks to everyone who's been reading. I hope you're all well and look forward to hearing from you. Email me and let me know about your Halloween back home if you want!
Love, Kate
