Before...
After...
I'm home safe and sounds in D.C. now. I miss Africa already but I'm also happy to be home - three of my great friends picked me up at the airport with welcome home signs!
As I woke up this morning and wandered aimlessly around my apartment, I realized... I have way too many clothes and shoes, my bed is huge and more cushy than is necessary, my shower unnecessarily hot and just plain uses too much water... what should I possibly do first?!
I took a long hot shower of course! And then tried on clothes that hadn't fit me well before I left - which made me smile. Then I broke out my computer and was thrilled to jump on the internet... and used my fancy phone to text and call people...
And then I felt incredibly guilty.
When I couldn't really stand being in my apartment much longer and decided it was time to venture out...I walked up the familiar streets, past a brand new finally finished high school, a new Panera Bread they put in on the corner, to buy a smoothie because I can... walked into the grocery store and walked right back out because it was just too overwhelming. Then I sat on a bench. My mind spinning...
And the realization sunk in (as it always does at some point when one is plopped back into the developed world)... no one walking by cared.
Jessi wrote a great post and I hope you will check it out! www.peacesofburkina.blogspot.com. The title is one of many hilarious quotes from our journey and I hope she will post more soon! I too will post more soon I hope. I just have to wrap my mind around everything first.
Thanks for the prayers for safe travel... the journey back went mostly without a hitch and I enjoyed by first "meal" back in the good ole US of A - an M&;M covered caramel apple at O'Hare Airport!!!!!
