But... she's a WOMAN...and WHITE!

That was one of the first comments I heard upon walking onto the basketball court on Saturday!  That was, of course, after walking through town in my basketball shorts, t-shirt, and tennis shoes... with one of my male co-workers... I thought I got stared at before!  haha!  So, I knew and expected that they would be a little skeptical... however I was banking on two things: Liberians are soccer players and hopefully wouldn't be too skilled at my game, AND Liberians are relatively short!
I was right and it was an absolute blast!!!  My friend from the office, Maurice, took me to the court, and kind of introduced me/supervised to make sure all of the guys treated me well, etc.  My ankle held up really well (still slightly swollen, but eh), though I can't say the same for my old tennies (they now have a hole in them)!
They were duly impressed with my skilz and my lack of stamina!  There was one young, short, guy who was really good and kind... always asked me to be on his team.  We had some good laughs, I showed em up a bit, and it was all in all a GREAT time outside, away from my boss, and just playing!

NOW... who thought it was a good idea to go play for THREE hours after not having played in three months? With a bunch of fit 18-22 year olds?  In the hot sun?
Suffice it to say, I can barely move!  My body is SO mad at me and is now rebelling in every way possible!  haha!  To say I feel old and sore would be an understatement!

It was another good weekend, with an office party, some visitors, finally making a visit to the local dance club, attending to catholic mass and attempting to cook (with gas, with fire outside, eating fish heads...)!  Throw in a new pirated version of the x-men movie and some cold local beer and it was good times had by all!
However... my paper is yet to be turned in... dun dun dun!  The joys of grad school continue... even in Liberia!

Chao for now!  Kate
