Favorite Liberian English sayings so far:
Wait Small (=Wait a few minutes)
Q: How you goin? A: Thank God (= Good, thanks)
How's your body? (=How are you feeling?/ How did you sleep?)
Q: blah blah, is that right? A: Very good (=Yes, that's right)
Favorite Question I've been asked so far:
Do you grease after your baths? haha! ("grease" = "apply lotion")
And to his great surprise my answer was "no!" Too funny!
Oh man... we have all laughed so hard at the continuous misunderstandings and the need to repeat ourselves! Between the Danish lady, a Serbian lady, a Scottish/Australian guy, my Ugandan boss, and the many dialects of Liberian English that I've dealt with since arriving, it has been cause for some pretty hilarious moments! No one complains about my American English though, so that's good! :) Just wish I spoke French for the work in the communities and camps!
That's all I have time for now, but I'm glad it's Friday (my one week anniversary in Liberia)! Looking forward to market day tomorrow, maybe getting a little exercise (volleyball or basketball or something... taking care of my ankle of course!), trying a church - they are VERY Christian here, and maybe even getting some work done on my paper that is due in a couple of weeks!
Happy Friday everyone!
